A Simple Coaching Visit That Prevented a Bigger Problem

During a routine coaching visit, an employee casually mentioned having a red, irritated eye. What could have been dismissed as minor irritation became an important moment of proactive care.

After gathering a brief history and conducting a focused exam, the TargetCare provider suspected a possible corneal abrasion and recommended prompt evaluation by an ophthalmologist to prevent complications. The employee followed through.

Within a week, the employee returned to the clinic — not for treatment, but to say thank you.

The ophthalmologist performed the exact evaluation discussed during the coaching visit and confirmed the diagnosis of a corneal abrasion. Because it was addressed quickly, appropriate treatment was started before the issue worsened. The employee shared that without the coaching appointment, they likely would not have sought care at all.

Why This Matters for Employers

This story illustrates the broader value of accessible onsite care:

  • Casual conversations can uncover meaningful health concerns
  • Early evaluation prevents complications and potential emergency visits
  • Employees are more likely to seek follow-up care when encouraged by a trusted provider
  • Convenient access removes the “I’ll wait and see” barrier

Not every success story involves a major diagnosis. Sometimes, the greatest impact comes from being present, accessible, and attentive. This is the power of onsite wellness and coaching: creating opportunities for early intervention, reducing risk, and ensuring employees receive the right care at the right time — before small concerns become costly problems.
